Untitled (Upstreet Drawings)
This work was made during the Do Good Artist Residency at Upstreet Craft Brewing in Charlottetown, PEI, in collaboration with This Town Is Small Artist-Run Centre. During the residency, the artists are invited to create a new body of work, design a beer with the brewmaster, and create a food pairing menu with the chef. The drawings are inspired from several sources: island culture, erosion of land masses, cartographic structures, and shapes of foam lacing that remains on the beer glass. These forms are all interlinked in shape, but their scales are quite different. The structures in the drawings are made in graphite, as a grid, reminding us of Sol Lewitt’s work. However, the grid becomes less geometric and more organic as the lines fade; the structure wants to be both static and fluid at once. Though the shapes in the grids are squares, they become fluid-like in their existence, reminiscent of lacing on the sides of beer glasses.

Ce travail a été réalisé pendant la résidence Do Good Artist Residency chez Upstreet Craft Brewing à Charlottetown, IPÉ, en collaboration avec le centre d’artiste This Town Is Small. Pendant la résidence, les artistes sont invités à créer un nouveau corpus d’œuvre, à concevoir une bière avec le maître brasseur et à créer un menu d’accords gastronomiques avec le chef. Les dessins sont inspirés de plusieurs sources: culture insulaire, érosion des masses terrestres géographiques, structures cartographiques et formes de dentelle en mousse qui restent sur le verre à bière. Ces formes sont toutes liées entre elles, mais leurs échelles sont très différentes. Les structures des dessins sont réalisées en graphite, sous forme de grille, rappelant le travail de Sol Lewitt. Cependant, la grille devient moins géométrique et plus organique à mesure que les lignes s'estompent; la structure se veut à la fois statique et fluide. Bien que les formes dans les grilles soient des carrés, elles deviennent fluides, rappelant la dentelle laissée sur les verres à bière.
